Center Stage: Monologue Slam

An evening of powerful monologues performed by local artists, with works by Black playwrights that center voice, craft, and lived experience

Center Stage: Monologue Slam is a curated evening of live theatrical performance featuring monologues by Black playwrights, brought to life by local performers. Guided by Guest Curator Camille Upshaw, the program centers storytelling as a tool for expression, reflection, and cultural connection.

Presented during Black History Month and marking its 100th anniversary, Center Stage: Monologue Slam honors the legacy and continued relevance of Black voices in theater while aligning with Newark Arts Council’s mission to champion artists and provide accessible arts experiences for the community.

This event is FREE and open to all audiences.

• Location: Express Newark, Room 408 | 54 Halsey Street, Newark, NJ
• Enter Express Newark on the 2nd floor and proceed to the 4th floor
• Doors open 30 minutes prior
• Seating is limited and available on a first come basis
