September 12–October 14, 2011
The Way, The Truth, The Life: Sacred Artifacts from the Seton Hall Collections
Reception: Thursday, September 15th, 5-9pm

Co-curated by Museum Professions Graduate Candidates Danielle Shimkus and Pam Schwartz, the exhibition will present a magnificent array of sacred artifacts, long tucked away in Seton Hall University’s collections. From beautifully handmade chalices to elaborate religious vestments, these artifacts show the marriage of function and beauty in items designed for devotion. The objects on display will share the important stories and events from the university’s history.

The artifacts in the exhibition are culled from the Immaculate Conception Seminary, The Department of Archives and Special Collections, The Archdiocese of Newark, The Judeo-Christian Institute and the university’s fine art collections. Curators Pamela Schwartz and Danielle Shimkus note, “The collections demonstrate the richness of Catholic history with objects spanning from Renaissance manuscripts to contemporary painting. We are proud to present this selection to the community at large.”

Monsters, Saints and Cool Summer Dresses
Amy Young
Reception: Friday, September 16th, 7-10pm

Inspired by the social connectivity of the Street Art movement, social media, the work of photographer Walker Evans and a desire to free art from it's function as commodity, artist Amy Young has conceptualized a series of works nestled on the art of giving and sharing titled  seemetellme. Since June 2010, Amy Young has placed hundreds of tinyseemetellme street art in New York, London and Paris. Using low-art materials and a strict time limit (an important part of her process), Young creates each piece in less than five minutes. Anonymity is not part of her working concept as Young identifies herself by putting her website address or QR code on each piece before she places it in public view. The complete record of these works and the comments of those who collect them are noted at seemetellme.blogspot.com.

The artist will distribute FREE, pieces from her seemetellme projects to visitors during her September 16th opening thru to September 24th. Those wishing to receive a free seemetellme artwork are encouraged to help support the seemetellme project with a suggested donation of just $10 per pair.
