Vilas V. Pimplé:
Artist Statement
I grew up in a very creative environment and a family background of Arts. My father Vasant Pimple' was a sculptor of repute who influenced and inspired me greatly. My mother Vijaya was a singer, my maternal uncle Arvind Potphode is a sculptor and ceramist based in Germany since 1970, and my paternal uncle Kamlakar Pimple' is a master craftsman.
I learned to sculpt at a very young age watching my father at work and eventually followed his footsteps. I graduated from Sir J.J. School of Art in Modeling and Sculpture in 1971 and Ceramics and Pottery in 1973. I was a faculty member at my alma mater from 1976 to 1983 after which I moved to New York and have been working here as a professional sculptor, ceramist and painter.
I have exhibited my works in many art fairs, group shows and solo shows in USA. and India. In Dec. 2007 and Feb 2008 I had two solo shows in Mumbai, India.
I have developed my own individual style of forms and finishes. I am continuously exploring and experimenting to find new techniques and mediums. The universe is my greatest inspiration. The forms I create symbolizes poetry in motion.
