Seth Nagelberg:

My work is an exploration of place and how it is experienced. How is place defined? Is it a point where two lines converge on a map? Is it a sign stating "You are here"? Is it the place or thing that occupies a space? I believe that place is something that lies between expectation, experience and memory. I am particularly interested in what an experience is composed of.

The forms represented in my work are boats, bridges, gateways and recently, houses. These are vehicles of transformation as well as transportation and destination. The materials I use are ordinary home products and standard building materials. I have used electric fans to inflate, propel and illustrate, literally drawing with air.

Mr. Nagelberg has a studio in the Ironbound section of Newark. He received a B.F.A. in Ceramics from the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford in 1993 and an M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2001.
