| Laura Cuevas: As the daughter of a Puerto-Rican father and a Puerto-Rican-Cuban mother, Laura Cuevas was steeped in Caribbean culture as she grew-up in Brooklyn. Educated at Hunter College and Teachers College, Columbia University, she is a leading Latino mixed-media artist and photographer with numerous shows including the Inside & Outside show at Paul Robeson Gallery, Rutgers University; as well as exhibits at The Pen & Brush Gallery, NYC; Agora Gallery, NYC: The Cradle Project Exhibition, Albuquerque, NM, The PURA CUBA SHOW at Perth Amboy Gallery Center for the Arts, Perth Amboy, NJ, and the Theresa Maloney Gallery, College of Saint Elizabeth, Morristown, NJ. Laura is a photographer and mixed media artist and has been exhibiting since 1985.
Additionally, Laura has been awarded a Geraldine R. Dodge Art Initiative Grant, and she has held artists’ residencies at the Provincetown Arts Centre in Massachusetts and the Vermont Studio Centre, Johnson, Vermont as well as The National Gallery’s “Narrative of Self” Project in Washington DC.
