Pollard lives and paints in downtown Newark, New Jersey.
She grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and spent formative years sculpting
and learning to paint in Vemont and New Mexico. She studied sculpture
at the University of Michigan School of Art, Ann Arbor, and painting
at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Philadelphia.
Pollard has exhibited her paintings in venues across the United
States, including: Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia; The Albuquerque
Art Museum ; AS 220, Providence, RI; The Harwood Art Center, Albuquerque;
and New Mexico State University . Her awards include a New Jersey
State Council on the Arts Painting Fellowship, an Aljira Emerge
Fellowship 2002 , residencies at Headlands Center for the Arts,
the Ragdale Foundation, the Ucross Foundation and the Vermont Studio
Center.
As a painter, Pollard is interested in the meaning that arises from
the overlap of optically received information with the images, smells
and sounds simultaneously brought to mind by words. Along with her
diverse approaches to handling paint, Pollard's frictional explorations
present confrontations and reconciliations, which are humorous,
poignant and complex. |
