Brian O'Boyle:
As a local North Jersey artist, I have become a product of my environment. My artwork has developed, and grown over the past year significantly, and I have no plans of stopping. My work is constantly evolving, and growing as I develop new techniques and processes.
In my latest body of work, my art has evolved to include a variety of characters, some of them reflecting individuals whom I have met over the years, and some who are primarily figments of my imagination that came to life though the pages of my sketch book. It is there, in my sketchbook, where these characters transform, and developed their own personalities, which then are brought to life in my studio. I like to look at the many sub cultures that are formed in our society, deconstruct them, and then build them back together. Throughout this body of work there are various themes which are present, ranging from war, to gender roles, and social classes.
I find that a lot of my influences come from pop art, as well as folk art, and like to include various mediums in my artwork, especially fabric, wood, and foam. I feel that a person’s clothing can tell you a lot about them, and with the use of various fabrics, I hope to further develop the personalities behind some of my characters. I have come to love working with different materials, and coming to learn what works best together through the process of trail and error, and the construction aspect of my artwork is something that I have really come to love.
With this body of work, I hope to invoke a feeling of curiosity in those who view my art, appeal to those both young and old. My work is mean to be serious at times, but also includes a lot of humor, so take it for what it is, and enjoy.
